ICEF 2nd. Annual Meeting Summary: Concurrent Session - CCS

CCS is expected to be one of the key technologies to mitigate climate change, and in increasingly attracting attention as the Boundary Dam Project, the world’s first large-scale CCS project in the power sector, started in 2014. In this session, the current situation and future prospects of CCS projects will be reviewed, and challenges in CCS deployment (e.g. cost reduction, safety ensuring and expansion of demonstration projects) will be discussed from technological and social perspectives.

Thank you for various and condense presentations by good panelists. I really would like Japanese decisions makers to listen to panelists' comments that CCS is proven technology. Unproven is excuse only. Even CCS cost becomes one tenth of current one, nobody use CCS at the moment, because CCS makes no money and make disadvantage like reduction of electricity efficiency. As far as those opinions are dominant in Japan, CCS has no hope in the future and Japan has no hope of GHG mitigation contribution much.
