The 4th ICEF: New challenge of uncertainties
The uncertainty we are now facing is described as "huge-beyond-reason (ijigen-no fukakujitsusei)" by Dr. KUBO Fumiaki of the University of Tokyo. He means the impacts of what will be implemented as "America First" policies by the US President Donald Trump to the global community could be beyond imagination. New US policies, either domestic or foreign, do have much larger internation...
ICEF INNOVATION ROADMAPS
Last October more than 1000 people from around the world convened in Tokyo for the 3rd Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF). With participation from senior government officials, business executives and thought leaders, the conference has become an important forum for dialogue on ways to promote clean energy and protect the planet. But ICEF is more than an annual conference. The ICEF Innovat...
CO2 zero emission as the key concept of ICEF
ICEF started in 2014 and I served ICEF as the chairman of its steering committee. ICEF held its first forum in October 2014 and its second in October 2015. ICEF 2014 gathered audience of around 800, and ICEF 2015 gathered more than 1,000 from all over the world. In this sense these forums were successful. However after the two forums I felt that the focal point of the meetings was not so clear and...

Power Conversion Technologies for Large Scale Renewables Integration: Reviews and Prospects of ICEF 2016 Concurrent Sessions
Large shares of renewable electricity pose major challenges to the power grid: One is that renewables are to be produced where wind potentials exist and space for harvesting solar radiation and biomass is available. Unfortunately these renewable resources exist often in remote areas far from power load centers. As a consequence, a growing share of renewable electricity depends on long distance ele...
Smart Grids: Reviews and Prospects of ICEF 2016 Concurrent Sessions
The electric energy sector is changing. The production landscape of electricity is changing, with increased number of renewables such as wind and solar with variable production. The consumption landscape is changing, with significant improvements in energy efficiency and accelerated deployment of electric vehicles. The investor landscape for the energy sector is changing, with increasing part...

CARBON-NEGATIVE ENERGY SYSTEM -- Sustainable World Energy Supply and Global Environment Restoration Using Renewable and Nuclear Energies
Investigated is a carbon-negative energy system which supplies energy sustainably to the world and sequestering carbon from the global carbon cycle to control atmospheric CO2 concentration. In the conceptual system presented, carbon will be effectively removed from the global carbon cycle by the biomass-nuclear synergistic process to produce biochar and biofuel. Typically, by this carbon-negative ...

Researchers found a way to store CO2 in volcanic rock
An international team of researchers have found a way for CO2 to rapidly form carbonate minerals, by injecting CO2 into the volcanic rock under Iceland. This could potentially be a cheaper and more secure way to store CO2 underground, and it could also improve public acceptance of CCS. As the next step, the team is planning to scale up the project. https://www.or.is/english/carbfix-project
