Career history:

After graduating from the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University, Professor Daisho joined the university as a research associate in 1976. Then, he has been a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering since 1985. His research areas include internal combustion engine performance and emissions for the vehicle in theory and practice and alternative power systems such as electric, hybrid electric, fuel cell vehicle systems. He also focuses on alternative fuels and energy. He serves as council members at Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, associated with environmental and energy issues.

Climate Change Challenges – The Impact on Vehicle Technology

Career history:

• Michael P. Walsh is a mechanical engineer who has spent his entire career working on motor vehicle pollution control issues at the local, national and international level. For the first half of his career, he was in government service, initially with the City of New York and subsequently with the US Environmental Protection Agency. With each, he served as Director of their motor vehicle pollution control efforts. Since leaving government, he has been an independent consultant advising governments and industries around the world. He served as co-chairman of the US EPA’s Mobile Sources Technical Advisory Subcommittee for approximately 12 years and is actively involved in projects in several countries. He has been a member of several National Academy of Sciences Committees.
• He is a recipient of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Lifetime Individual Achievement Award, the California Air Resources Board’s “Haagen Smit” award and was selected as a MacArthur Fellow for “extraordinary originality and dedication”. In 2009, he received the Silver Magnolia award for his service to the City of Shanghai. In 2010 he received the Friendship award, the highest award for international experts in China.
• He is the Founding Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Council on Clean Transportation. In 2012, he co-chaired the CCICED special project regarding “Controlling Regional Air Pollution in China”. He then co-chaired the CCICED follow up special project “Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan Performance Evaluation and Regional Coordination Mechanism Study”. Currently he co-chairs a third special project regarding Short Lived Climate Forcers and the Non-Road and Marine Sectors.

Career history:

• Nobuhiko KOGA was born 12 December 1966. He graduated from Tokyo University of Science with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Fluid Dynamics) in March 1991 and joined Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in April the same year.
• In 2000, Mr. Koga was appointed manager of Technical Regulatory Affairs Division in Toyota Motor Europe.
• In 2008, he was made a project manager of Energy Affairs Department and in April 2014 he became General Manager of this department.
• In January 2015, Mr. Koga was appointed as General Manager of R&D Management Division, which looks after mid to long-term global R&D strategy of all Toyota group.

Received engineering degree from Technical University of Munich in 1991. Worked four years as consultant for embedded projects. Since 1995 at BMW on various R&D management positions in Japan. From 2007 General Manager for E/E vehicle architecture at Munich HQs. Since last year in charge of BMW R&D in Japan.

Career history:

• Richard (Ric) Parker was appointed Director of Research & Technology, Rolls-Royce Group in January 2001, and is based in Derby, United Kingdom. He is responsible for direction and co-ordination of Rolls-Royce Research & Technology programmes worldwide.
• Rolls-Royce since 1978, he held various posts including Chief of Composites and Ceramics, Director of Compressor Engineering, Director Civil Aerospace Engineering.
• Ric is Chairman of the European, Clean Sky Joint Undertaking, a €4bn collaborative research programme.
• Ric was awarded a CBE (Commander of order of the British Empire) in the 2013 UK New Year’s Honours List for “Services to Engineering”. He was named European CTO of the year 2014 by EIRMA.
• Ric is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He is a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Engineers.
• Ric gained a BSc in Physics at Imperial College, London in 1975 and an MBA from Loughborough University in 1992. He has doctorates (honoris causa) from Sheffield University, Heriot Watt University, Loughborough University, Pusan National University (Korea) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). He is a visiting Professor in Aviation Technology at Loughborough University and an Honorary Professor in Materials Engineering at Birmingham University.
